Our troop has a couple of normal fees...
Joining Fee: $18.00.. They get a Neckerchief, Slide, Handbook,
Registration and Boy's Life. Yearly
re-registration and re-subscription to Boy's
Life is covered by the troop.
Weekly Dues: $0.50... Parents are encouraged to make the boys earn the
dues money, not just hand the 2 quarters.
Monthly Campouts $10.00.. This covers one or two nighters, mainly the
Summer Camp $165.00.. This is the cost of camp. Most boys will have
earned enough money in their boy's fund to pay
much of this expense.
Any or all of these fees can be waved by the SM or CC based on the
families financial condition. For privacy reasons this is not a
Our troop also has a Boy's Fund. This is troop money allocated to the
boy for scouting use. It is earned by the boy by participating in
fund raisers. Half of the money a boy collects in a fund goes to the
boy's fun the rest goes to the troop general fund. If it's a group
activity (ie. car wash, breakfast..), half is devided equaly among the
participants. Most boys use the boys fund for camp, but it can be used
for anything if they can tie it to scouting. We even had a boy that
wanted a bike so bad that he used his boys fund to buy a bike to work
on the cycling MB.
How's that for a long answer to a short question..

Two questions --
Our SM has heard there are local (NCAC) troops giving "Community Service"
credits for attending troop meetings. Is this an Urban Myth, or is it
legitimate? We've checked with about four other troops and all have heard
of this, but none say they do it.
Also, We'd like to know about other Troop's dues structure. Ours are
currently $15/yr; the Treasurer thinks we need to double that to $30, but
the Troop Committee wonders what the "average troop" charges. (We know of
one that charges $500/yr, but feel that's NOT average!)
All comments welcomed.
