You are absolutely right. Most MDs are not trained to be First
Responders. About fifteen years ago when I was in Panama, I made a
parachute jump with the "Forsa Defensa De Panama" The Panama Defense
One poor soul made a very bad landing and hit hard on his elbow. He
was in a lot of pain when I rushed over to him. I started splinting
the elbow in place so that he could be evacuated with little
discomfort. An FDP officer pushed me aside saying he was a doctor.
He then proceeded to straighten out the bent elbow. The soldier
screamed in extreme agony. I asked this officer, "What kind of doctor
are you?" He replied, "OBGYN."
Knowledge of female plumbing does not constitute an understanding of
emergency medical procedures.
