DEs as Camp Directors

The discussion regarding DEs and cub scout day camp reminds me of one of my
pet peeves. A council that uses DEs as camp directors, deprives those
districts of executive support for two to three months per year. This has
to have an inpact on performance or we would not have DEs in the first place.
On the other hand, the continuity, leadership, and skill that the DEs
provide have turned our summer camp programs into something amazing. As
Bruce said, check out the article in last months scouting magizine about
Camp Powhatan, Camp Ottari, High Knoll, and New River High Adventure at the
Blue Ridge Scout Reservation. BTW If anyone from the list is coming to Camp
Ottari, or High Knoll this summer, I'll see you there. I'm usually the
first guy you see. The one at the bottom of the hill with the clipboard.
On balence, I probably would not go back to the old way, but having a part
time DE still bothers me.
