>I whole heartedly agree with you!! I also believe that Girl Scouts really
>need to get the PR out there and let people know about the Gold Award."
I agree with Patti Scanlan and Vicki Palmer. We in GSUSA need to Promote
our Gold Award Recipients. Not only in the media but in our communities.
Also, as mentioned during the discussion on the Gold and Eagle earlier, we
need to seek famous women that is or has been Girl Scouts and particularly
Gold Award, First Class, Curved Bar or Golden Eaglet recipients. Then we
need to get these women to promote Girl Scouting as the positive and
motivating movement that we know it to be.
In our communities, we need to promote our Gold Award recipients.
In my Council the girls are honored at a luncheon. Families are invited
but have to pay to attend. I was told that they were discouraged from
having receptions in their home communities. On the other hand, our Eagles
all get wonderful ceremonies in the community with family and guests from
all areas of the Eagle's life including wonderful media coverage. The
more it is in the media the more people will start to recognize the value
and hard work the girls put forth to earn this award.
