Dean Hayes pointed out that the Tenderfoot requirement specifies local
poisonous plants, but the manual only instructs on poison oak, ivy and
sumac. I agree that this seems a little parochial, especially if the
manual doesn't even mention ingested poisons. However, remember that your
Scouts may not spend the rest of their lives in the Cascades <g>.
Learning to recognize plants that can make you miserable after just touching
them may prove to be useful someday. Remember: "Leaflets three, let it be."
BTW, we have quite a bit of poison ivy around these parts, but Istill
can't reliably identify it. So I just stay away from any plant shorter
than 1 foot, or any vines wrapped around trees :-)
