An article in Today (June 1st) USA Today reports that six Girl Scouts were
prohibited from reciting the Pledge of Allegence at the steps of the
Jefferson Memorial because the ranger said they were having an unauthorized
protest. The article said the scouts had planned to then read a poem they
had written about the American Flag but the Girl Scouts cancelled the
remainder of their ceremony because of the actions of the ranger.
Has anyone else read this, what happened? Has the National Park Service gone
this far overboard? with all of our nation's problems, labeling the Girl
Scouts reciting the Pledge of Allegance as "unauthorized demonstrations"
seems to be way out of line.
