If we did as well electing our own national leaders at the scouts
so with OA elections, I think we would have far better government!
From over 25 years association with the OA, I would say that at least
99 percent of the 'deserving' eventually get elected. It took me
3 times, and I became lodge chief. I also point out that it is
a YOUTH run organization, and will make mistakes. And some of the
'class clowns' turn out to be very good cermonies team members, or
on the dance teams etc. If you have ever had the opportunity to
meet a NATIONAL OA cheif, you will see that the program works to
develop the very best in leadership. The National chiefs are some
of the best and brightest young men that you will ever meet.
I might add that I am not aware of any scout that really WANTED
the OA, and stayed active, and advanced in scouting, NEVER to be
elected. You can have an election with 3 boys and elect ALL 3!
If you want to see some numbers, I can provide them! Nothing
illegal or sneaky!
If your troop chooses NOT ot hold elections because a scout
might not be elected, you are going to deny the rest of the
scouts some of the best oportunies for leadership development!
National leadership seminars and NOAC all included. And lastly,
I suggest that we all remember that the OA is about service!
it is first a service organization, to which it is an honor
to belong. What a gimic ;)
elected to OA after the 3rd try, former lodge chief and advisor!
