Dear friends and fellow scouters....
This week and weekend has certainly been a busy, yet exciting time in my life.
Yesterday was my son's 6th Birthday and to celebrate I got a present. Wow! Wh
at a deal! Last night I was awarded the District Award of Merit at our Distric
t Dinner. This comes on the eve of my retirement (no I'm not that old) of bein
g Cubmaster for Pack 383! I leave a legacy of having built one of the largest
pack programs in the Cascade Pacific Council, and pass this hat to a very quali
fied person, Dave Loseke, who will do a fine job in continuing this legacy.
My little league baseball team qualified for the championships on Tuesday, and S
aturday we play. It's been exciting to see these boys (all of which, but three,
are also in Scouting) develop into one of the strongest little league TEAM I'v
e ever coached. On Sunday, we're celebrating (win or lose) by heading North to
Seattle to watch the Seattle Mariner's play. I'm not sure what is more exciti
ng for the boys, playing in the championship game (on a really, really nice fie
ld) or going to the Mariner game.
Anyway, I'm heading into this Holiday weekend feeling pretty good and wanted to
share this with the group. Have a safe and pleasant weekend.
(For the Non-USA readers: Memorial day is a National Holiday, which has been se
t aside to remember those that have died serving our country. In some places i
t is marked by parades and Scouts placing flags on military graves. However, i
n reality it is often celebrated as an extended weekend to the beach, mountain,
backyard BBQ, and Baseball games.)
