My name is Bob Smith, and I'm Assistant Scoutmaster with
Troop 3, Abraham Lincoln Council, Springfield, IL. I came into
Scouting when my oldest son crossed over from Webelos. I had helped
occasionally with Webelos meetings and outings, but only
unofficially. The Scoutmaster recruited me to run the new scout
program. Talk about *Culture Shock* - the new scouts AND me! Well,
we ALL survived, and I've been *OVERSEEING* the program for three
years now. I counsel Cooking, Camping, and First Aid Merit
Badges(all part of the new scout program), as well as Indian Lore.
I am an ordeal member of Illinek Lodge 132, where I serve as
dance team advisor and assistant advisor to our ceremonies team. I
am the proud father of an Eagle(Class of '94), a second year Webelo,
and a Bear. And I just recently completed my Wood Badge. "I used
to be an EAGLE, a good ole..." - sorry.
My wife is also active in Scouting. She helps with the
Cubs, serves on our Troop Committee, and counsels several Merit
Badges. We have a deep love for Scouting, even though we're
relatively new to it. I appreciate the years of experience evident
on this list, and I intend to listen, learn, and participate.
See ya on the 'net.
