New thread :-) on sewing/ironing patches

With all the discussion concerning the quality of patches, where
they are to be worn, and who affixes them to the shirt, I would
like to add my two cents' worth.
Every time my son needs a patch added to his shirt, merit badge
sash, brag vest or whatever, my wife complains and I don't blame
her. The patches are manufactured to be "iron-on". However, the
glue used doesn't hold up for long. Therefore, they must be sewn
on. Well, while the glue won't stay glued for long, it sure does
make it hard to get a needle through. Life would be much easier
if they would leave the glue off.
