The agenda that Howard Trowbridge described for a pack
open house sounds just like the agenda you would want at
a Fall school night round-up. Here are some ideas my Pack
plans to do this year:
The day before school starts for us is "Book Day" where
parents come and pay book fees and pick-up handouts.
The Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts always have an information
table staffed during Book Day. Maybe we'll have one of
Mike Walton's silver towers there this year.
The Sunday before school starts, the Cub Scouts, Boy
Scouts, and Girl Scouts of our school will host a back-to-
school ice cream social for all the families in our parish
(whether their kids attend school at the church or not).
I don't plan to advertise this as Scout sponsored or as a
recruiting event. But we will have the Scouts there in
uniform demonstrating Scout skills. This will be the Pack's
August activity. We plan to have a Raingutter Reggata
during the ice cream social to show everyone else how
much fun the Cubs have. After the race we'll empty the
raingutters, line them with foil, and create a couple of
giant banana splits.
