Guess what? I finally got 'em. My brand new buddies. Thanks to all
your help. I have used all your ideas (but then I had to consider my bank
I went to the library and got Backpacker's Magazine, gear review issue. I
have been reading old issues too now. I am also reading Chris Townsend's
book "The Backpacker's Handbook".
I ordered info and catalogs from L.L. Bean and REI (still waiting on those!)
I went to Columbus Sports, Sabo's (they said thanks for sending me!),
Benchmark Outfitters, and Gaylan's Trading Co. (we've also hit Cousin's
Army Navy and Surplus World looking for other supplies.) While shopping
we all got to try wall climbing, on a two story high wall, too. I got alot
higher than I thought I would. I think my daughter has found a sport she
finally enjoys. We had to go back last night so she could do it again!
Her school is doing a fundraiser to get a wall put in their gym.
I found a pair of Merrell's Dayhikers, with speed laces for $30.00! Regularly
$69.99. (Yes, they did run narrow!) Of course, mine aren't the NEW color,
but a few days on the trail, all boots are about the same color anyway right?
My husband and daughter both got a pair too! My husband's are a different
model with the WTC still $30.00. I can't belive we were all able to get a
pair for the price I was figuring I'd have to spend on one! (Saw them
reduced to $49.99 in another store.) We'll be on the trail soon.
We tested them on an incline, with double socks and still have room in the
back. I bought thin polypropylene socks, as well as Thorlo's for all of us.
We do love those Thorlo's already!
I bought waterproofer, by the way, the back of the SnoSeal says to cook
your boots. If nothing else at least to heat them up with a hair dryer
before applying. That wasn't as crazy as some of you might have thought. ;-)
Now we've been investigating the trails here in Ohio. Sure is hard to
find info around here.
To Ben--My flowers never got in, but I got my boots! And it's raining
Thanks again for all your help, my husband Paul thanks you too! He was
amazed that I seemed to know what questions to ask and what to look for.
P.S @HEY- I hear your off again, never received your e-mail over the
weekend when you said, did you get it done? Host system has had problems
again. New handbooks are out, I will have one next week in case there are
