Craid Bond gave a good summation of the program that I have heard of re LDS
Scouts. I learned a bit. All I have known is that their units were a bit
standoffish towards other troops - doing their own thing. Their Merit
badge councilors often would not accept Scouts from other Troops for
At one time the LDS Troops in our Council had their own "reserved" week at
camp as well but many complained that this probably was not very scouting.
It is the mixture of viewpoints and ideas that bear fruit. If I were going
to put my son in an LDS unit I would also visit and take a look. I know of
no non LDS in our area in an LDS Troop. I would also be careful in that
the LDS Troop has a missionary approach to most people and your son might
be recruited. It is up to you.
I was the only non catholic member of a catholic troop myself in my youth
and thoroughly enjoyed it!
