I am LDS myself as well as a Scoutmaster and a District Executive with the
Choctaw Area Council in Meridian, Mississippi. The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Saints uses the Scouting program as the activity arm of the Aaronic
Priesthood. The church believes so much in the values and teachings that
Scouting offers in developing young men that it is used in virtually all LDS
units. You will find good and bad LDs units just as you will any type unit.
Differences are few but there are some such as you cannot enter a Boy Scout
troop until you are 12. Leadership is usually the same in the troop as in
the priesthood classes but in my troop this is not the case. For the most
part Scouting is Scouting but check out any troop before you commit yourself
to it as well find out about the leadership. And by all means get involved.
