I have to support Craig's statements. I was cubmaster of a pack where we
never saw the principal at a meeting or at a cub scout activity but she let
it be known that the pack was important in the mixture of school activities.
She communicated through the IR (COR, CPR, or whatever) as needed. Most of
the pack did not recognize the support she provided but each year we made
sure she got a thank you letter. And, when she alerted the IR to an
opportunity for the cubs scouts to be of service to the school, we made sure
we responded. We staffed the refreshment booths for a lot of events, helped
set up and take down chairs for evening programs, helped clean the school
grounds each spring, and helped with the spring and fall celebrations. She
also knew when our charter was due and called a month in advance to let us
know when she would be available to sign the application. And, when other
groups wanted to kick us out of the gym on our regular meeting night, she
made it clear that her support was with the pack.
I encourage you to make a simple presentation of a thank you placque--use
a standard BSA variety. It will pay off in the end.
