I am looking for detailed information about Camping Competition Weekends. I
am in Patriots' Trail GS Council and have a Cadette Troop. I also serve on
the Newton Service Unit and we are trying to start a camping weekend for
Cadettes (ages 12-14) and Seniors(ages 14-18).
I believe in Boy Scouts and in other countries these are called Camporees.
Am I correct? (I have two Cub Scouts but this is their first year and we
haven't experienced this yet). I would love input from everyone-Girl Guides,
Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Scouters, etc.
My questions are as follows:
What types of competitions do you have? Who judges? How do you determine
the judging (i.e. what different aspects are judged - skill, safety, speed
Knots and Ropes?
What kind of materials do you send out ahead of time?
Who provides what?
How do you schedule it?
What are the goals of the event?
What are the priorities?
What about inexperienced groups?
Please send me e-mail or even snail mail if you have alot of information. I
would love to see copies of schedules, equipment list, planning agendas,
anything which would help me and my girls determine what we need to consider
and plan for. Also see how different groups plan their events will give us
ideas for our weekend.
I am willing to send anyone who has information prestamped pre addressed
manila envelopes. E-mail is of course welcome. I will create a document
with all the wonderful information I will recieve (as I know you all are
great at sending information:-) and post it. If I get alot of really great
stuff I will html it for the Patriots' Trail Home Page and offer it to the
various archive sites.
