BSA: Year pins and counting the years.

Maybe you're new pack is just a little lazy. We check with
each boy to find what their total years are so as to cover
years at other packs.
I've always thought it odd that in Boy Scouts we wear
red shoulder loops but green backing on the service stars.
On my shirt I wear a 2-year/orange for being a Tiger Cub
partner with 2 of my sons. That second time through I also
count that year as a Scouter (CM). So the sum of my stars is
greater than my total years in Scouting.
When we hand out the stars I take some time to explain
the system and rules for wear. The most common mistake
for the boys is to wear all the stars (1-orange, 1-yellow,
