I agree that when one "quotes" national policy, all the information about
where it came from should be included, but frequently that is not always
available. I do most of my corresponsence from my office. My Scouting
Library is kept at home where I do most of my Scouting. In order to give
timely responses, I frequently write from my memory and I am sure that
others do the same. I am sorry to say that my memory does not come with
page numbers and revision dates.
If somebody questions my memory they can always write me back and inquire
about those details. If I have time, I will look them up and reply publicly
with them. So far very few (one or two) have questioned my memory (of
course, those who did were correct in doing so).
So it comes down to this, Michael: Do you think people with questions would
prefer timely responses that are usually correct or correct responses with
the proof listed and detailed that are not timely? IMHO I think that people
want timely responses.
Of course there are some people who have the luxury or ability to have their
Scouting libraries in the same place they do their E-Mail. To these people
I kindly request that when you quote "National Policy", that you include the
publication, page number, and revision or publication date. Those who are
picky about those things, I am sure, will appreciate it.
To the rest of us who do not have that luxury, I kindly request that you
state that the information in your post comes from your memory and not
directly from a book. If you can also state which book you remember reading
it in, I am sure this, too, would be appreciated by many.
NOTE: None of the above came from any book or publication. It all came
from inside my strange and unusual head.
