Hmmm. I am under the impression that the aforementioned studies were done
at the huge Bell Telephone plant in Cicero IL, located adjacent to
Hawthorne race track and so named the plant. I was there 20 years ago
shooting an industrial safety film and the supervisor had not told the
workers we would be there (slowing down the work and accidentally
damaging some machinery in the process) Since ther workers were paid by
piece-work, they were unhappy, especially over the damage (a rack of
rotary step switch covers had to be repainted) until we settled that they
would be paid their average days production anyway even if actual prod.
was less. Interesting stuff. The plant is now bulldozed, and is a large
Home Depot store and parking lot.
There musth have been more than one site for the 'Hawthorne study' but
could they all have been named Hawthorne? Interesting!
