that he can take ater a couple of years with teh troop.

As a scout, your husband probably thought scouting was a leader taking
boys for walks and camps in the woods. There is much of that there, but
with a coupple of purposes in mind.
The outdoors are mearly the laboratory where scouting's methods are
practiced. They are a means to an end, not the end in themselves.
Just my opinion, of course.
