According to the SCOUTS-L introduction, everyone is encouraged to send a
brief introduction, so here goes:
My name is Ron Fox (Ron W. Fox shows up because America Online already
has a Ron Fox somewhere in their database). I am Cubmaster of Pack 69, Des
Plaines Valley Council, B.S.A. We are chartered by the Pleasantdale Park
in Burr Ridge (Southwest suburb of Chicago).
I got recruited 3 years ago when my son joined as a Tiger. I didn't make the
meeting (I had a previously arranged speaking engagement) but my wife
volunteered my previous experience (Life Scout, O.A., Camp Staff at Camp
Child, Old Colony Council and Owassipe, Chicago Area Council), and I got
the phone call:
" Mr. Fox, I haven't met you, and we usually don't ask for this level of
Tiger parents, but .... we really need a Cubmaster:"
Actually, so far it's been a lot of fun. I've met a lot of great people and
friends. I've staffed the Klondike Derbys and the Cub-Parent overnight, and
Outdoor Webelos Leader Training. We also have gotten our Pack to the
Camp at Camp Shin-Go-Beek in Wapaca, Wisconsin. This year, we have 19 boys
and 19 adults going up for 4 days/3 nights of camping. The dirty little
secret is that we
have more fun than the Scouts, I think.
My interests are how to improve my Cubmastering, how to improve our outdoor
program, and how to improve our pack meetings. I'm involved in the Council's
Cub Scouting Camping program and promotion committees, so if anyone has any
share on that, I'd love to see it. Thanks!
