As the Business Manager for Thunder Scout Reservation I am now in the middle
of making all of our purchases and orders for our Camp Trading Post and need
the wisdom of Scouts-L .
We view our Trading Post as a Country Store to meet the total needs of out
troops and in total support of our camp programs. We strive to beat National
BSA Supply Division in both quality and price whenever we can. Already I
have found more than two dozen companies which offer identical items in the
catalog for far less money.
Here are my needs:
1.) At your summer camp, what seems to be the most popular products, what
items do you WISH your Trading Post would carry.
2.) What good suppliers do you know that offer neat and inexpensive high
quality merchandise which scouts would be interested in.
3.) What independent publishers of BSA related books do you know that I
should contact (currently I have about 60 titles of BSA related books that
Supply Division does not carry, things like Creative Court of Honor, Canyon
Campfire Companion, etc. BUT I AM ALWAYS IN NEED OF OTHER IDEAS.
Thanks for the help! Oh yes, I should mention that while we do make a
profit, we do pass our savings on to the scouts. We are PROUD of the fact
that our Basketry Kits sell for $2.75 COMPARE THAT TO NATIONAL BSA's $5.50
for the same identical 5" Basket!!! It is but one example of how we are a
Discount Trading Post Operation.
P.S. - If anyone is looking for good supplier sources on different items I
can E-Mail you some of my better finds.
