Woods of Webelos Cooking Help
One thing we have done for this type of cooking demonstration is
chocolate euclairs. You need a 3/4" dowel for each participant.
Oil it down good. Each boy shapes simple bisquit dough over the
dowel and cooks it over an open fire. He removes the bisquit dough
from the dowel and fills it with vanilla pudding, and covers it with
chocolate frosting. We have the frosting and pudding ready for them
prepared in advance. It keeps them busy for 15 minutes. We also do
some deep frying. This is again using the bisquit dough, rolled int
into little balls, they drop them into a dutch oven filled with hot
grease to make donut holes. They roll them in sugar after being
cooked. We are very very supervisory of the Cubs around the hot
grease. WE rope off an area, similiar to an ax yard for the dutch
oven and stove, only one Webelos can be inside at a time.
Another item we let them try is using foil to cook a banana. We giv
give them a banana, they slice longways still in the peel. They add
some margarine and brown sugar into the slit, then fold up their
banana in foil and place it in the fire to bake. It's tasty, cheap,
easy, quick, and no mess.
These things we have done at similiar cooking events for cubs and
their moms. They are designed to be simple, cheap, fairly clean,
and something you can do in a limited time frame.
