We do both in our troop. Our cooking is done as follows:
1. Cook by patrols (most common) with leaders cooking for themselves.
Usually, I try to get one or more of the leaders to do something neat to
inspire the Scouts, e.g., bake a cake, roast a turkey, etc.
2. Cook individually or in pairs. This helps me to see who needs help
in cooking. The guys really like these campouts since they have the
most say in what the menu is. Leaders cook for themselves.
3. Troop cooking. Have just started doing this and have been pleased
with the results. Last campout 3 Scouts and one leader cooked for Troop
of 17. Had good food and a lots of fun doing it. We statred doing this
because some of our campouts have a tight schedule and we thought this
would be more efficient that #1 or #2 in terms of getting the whole unit
through meals and ready for the next event.
