I have only followed a few of the replys to the "Why female"
question, but as soon as finally read one I had to read the rest.
It is a very interesting question. I know that several people
have already quoted the Girl Scout "Safety Wise", etc., but here
are my two cents.....
I would LOVE to have a male adult participate in my troop. I
believe that the girls can benefit from having a man participate,
because men and women are raised diffrently, opposing points of
view, interests, etc., would be welcome and a great learning
As for camping.... I have been a Girl Scout for 22 years, and I
would have loved for my father (who was a BSA Executive) to come
camping with us, or for that matter my Eagle Scout brothers.
Nothing against Girl Scouts, but I do believe that BSA has a
better camping program. If I could find a father that would come
along with my troop to help in teaching that side of camping, I
would happily ask them along. (Of course following Safety Wise,
there would be other leaders, etc.)
I do agree with the statements that Girl Scouts is for Girls, so
therefore Women should be the primary factor. And I understand
that GSA is watching out for potential problems (abuse,
molestation, etc.,) But if all the other Safety Wise rules are
followed, a little common sense, etc., .... having a little male
influence would not hurt these girls at all.
Thanks for allowing my input.
