It works very well for us. The boys must pick those that they think will
do a good job. It is very exciting to see the dedicated scout get
elected over Peter Popularity.
I have, in 3 years, agreed 100% with their election choice.
We elect the leaders FIRST, then form patrols at the
Green bar (SPL, PL, ASPL, ...) meeting.
Because the boys elect the leaders, they have "bought in" on the
decision and 98% of the time contribute whole heartedly to the patrol.
The 2% typically is a personality conflict which we work out.

The SM Handbook is a wonderful guideline but with 10 years experience,
this works well for us. If the methodology is NOT working for others,
then they may want to try this method.
