Relations between GS and BS troops worked in our District. For three
years in a row the GS and BS got together to hold a co-ed spring event. A good
time was had by all that attended. About 150 BS and 100 GS attended. The
attendence rised as each year went a long. The event was held in a State park
with a huge open field. One side of the field was the GS and the other side was
To make the event more interesting patrols were mixed. Names of
everyone attended was put into a computer and a patrol of eight people were
made. Four GS and four BS. And no one in each patrol were from the same troop.
On Friday night you would get together with your patrol and come up with a name
and patrol flag. The BS brought certain supplies and the GS brought the other
supplies. All day Saturday was events that were done by patrol. Then for lunch
each troop of BS and GS had to bring something. BS and GS cooked and eat
together for this meal. Then in the evening their was a campfire. All three
years this program went off with no problem. Most scouts wished that we would
do more events together like that.
This program showed to the BS and GS that both groups could work
together and have a great time.
