Here is a revelation... At a recent Regional Course Directors Conference I met
a Wood Pigeon. He did his WB in England and apparently that is one of their
regular names. A lot of fun was had by all as we sang the WB Song.
There are to my knowledge 8 official names approved for use in Boy Scout Leader
Wood Badge. They are Beaver, Bobwhite,Eagle, Fox, Owl, Bear, Buffalo,
Antelope. These are the names used in the first BSA Wood Badge Course -- the
names of animals and birds found in this country. They are also used in the
order listed. The maximum course size is 8 patrols, so in theory these are the
only names needed. I do know of at least one Council (those excellent folks in
St. Louis, MO) who have had larger courses and I have met a Raven from that
