> In response to the request regarding elections.
In Troop 1, Acton, all terms are from June to June (12 months)
The boys elect the SPL first, then the ASPL, then the PL, then SCRIBE and Librarian.
The Quartermaster has never had more than 1 person running for it at
any one time so it is a mock election. I require a parent to be heavily
involved in this position.
The reason for our above order is that if a boy does not get one
of the "higher" positions, he has the opportunity for elected at a
Each boy must give a 1-2 minute election speech, then the election
takes place. The result for the single position is announced, then
the next position is set up for speech and vote.
The question we always ask the boys is:
"Who do you want to RUN THE TROOP". This is not a popularity contest
and requires some serious time commitment to work well in the position.
We require 12 months in the position. The reason is that June-> Sept is
our low period, (2 meetings /month, 1 campout, summer camp.) By the time
Jan hits, they are just getting into a working rythym, to cut it off here would
not be productive.
