Peter, I really don't know how the twine was dyed but I remember from time
to time we got down to undyed twine and the bale had to be taken out of
service until it was redyed. I always thought they put it in a bucket of
As for strands, we used three strands of binder's twine for each of the three
strands of the rope. One strand of the rope--made of three strands of
binder's twine--was green. For the short time we had patrol colors, one
strand of rope was made of two strands of green and one of the patrol color.
BTW, from time to time, I think we bought colored binder's twine.
I was too young to remember the details of getting supplies!!
