Two books that I have in my collection that are excellent bush and survival
books have information on rope making. They make ropes out of grass,
nettle plants, etc.... One picture has a climber ascending a cliff face
using a GRASS rope that is 3-strand, 3-lay and 2 inches in diameter! That
is in the Bushcraft book.
These books are:

OUTDOOR SURVIVAL SKILLS
by Larry Dean Olsen
Pocket Books by Writer's House, Inc.
303 West 42nd St.
New York, N.Y. 10036
Mine is first printing: June, 1976
Comments: Another good survival book. It has many items that I haven't
seen in other publications.
I would suggest to anyone on the list that they at least try to locate
these in their local library to preview them before they consider buying
them. Mine were purchased at a local sporting goods store in the
Cleveland, Ohio area and I have enjoyed reading both books.
I feel that they have interesting skills and ideas that may not be found in
many other resources. I like 'em! <gr>
