I just read Nancy's post and decided to answer. Also, I thought I would
introduce myself as I'm new to this list. My name is Vicki Palmer and I am
a Girl Scout in Columbia, MO. I am currently a leader of a Junior (4th-6th
grade) and Cadette (junior high) troop. I have been a scout for almost 18
years. I am really glad I found this list and hope to be around for a long
while (where are all the other Girl Scout leaders?).
Now to answer the questions. The Silver and Gold Awards (I have earned both)
are recognitions earned as a Cadette and Senior, respectively. You are correct
that the Gold is the highest award and is similar to "First Class." Both
entail several requirements. Earning interest projects and learning about
yourself plus a final major project are all needed to earn these awards.
There are also many other recognitions that can be earned as older scouts.
Leadership pins, service bars, bridge to adults are only a few.
Hope this information helps a little. I'm also glad to hear that your daughter
will be a Daisy in a couple of years. I have found that scouting families tend
to include all children and become involved in both organizations.
Glad to have signed onto this list.
