Congratulations on the growth of your troop. You must be doing something
very well to have attached this type of interest. I would suggest that you
structure your patrols the way you need them at the beginning of the year. If
you structure the way they should be at the end of the year, I think you might
contribute to the speeding of the process of boys leaving. Don't let any
patrol become larger than 8-9 boys. You will need to increase the number of
boy leaders. An additional ASPL or two would make sense. I would add an
additional Guide for each new scout patrol that you create.
I think that you need to make sure that your adult leadership expands
as the troop grows as well. I have always used the ratio of 1 ASM or every
8-10 boys. This is a good time to make sure that the families of the new boys
are talked to about being active in the troop. Try to get your new ASM's from
these families. It will both give you longer periods of leadership service and
it will help with retention of the boys.
