Thanks for the nice post about Girl Scouts, Lisa Varner!
I did call the San Francisco Bay Girl Scout Office today and got some
information about the Alumnae Program. It is run by a voluntee. They started
out with a coctail party and invited all "old" Girl SCouts from the area to
meet and greet! Many showed up, but only half that stayed active. There was a
wide variety of ages present. They use the women as helpers and also the
older Scouts can use them as mentors and visit the office of a working woman
for one day. I think this is truly a great idea!
They are working on a survey of other council alumnae groups and want to do
something at the next National Convention.
Another problem with the Girl SCout program is that the adults do not stay as
involved. We have to teach our scouts to stay a Girl SCout for the rest of
I could not talk to the woman in charge for very long, but I am going to get
back to her soon to get some more scoop on Alumnae Scouts! In our council,
we call them Evergreen.
Anyone else out there want to fill us in on their council program for
