Bruce Johnson, replying on presidents at National Jamborees commented on the
king of Sweden,
" I think it's pretty interesting that King Gustav (I think) of Sweden
visited the US National Jamborees at least 3 times in the 70s and 80s.
That made a really big impression, particularly since he walked, and had
a very small bodyguard contingent."
Indeed it made a HUGE impression on me. I met the king at Dalajamb in 1979
as he was reviewing troops of Scouts. He took his time walking slowly down
the line of Scouts in our subcamp, and he was willing to shake hands with
everyone he passed. I saw him again at the 1981 NJ, but this time there were
too many people around and he was probably on a tighter schedule. The thing
that made the biggest impression on me, though, was that on both occasions he
was wearing the Swedish Scouting uniform.
