I have to disagree a bit with some of the other advice you
have recieved. I lived for a while on the Jersey shore and
used to take scouts for trips to Yankee games, and such.
We used to use the Lincoln tunel, and park at the Port
Authority, almost at the tunnel exit! Parking is reasonable,
and some what secured!!! (however, compared to the rest
of the world , except maybe Skydome in Toronto, nothing in
NYC is reasonable or secure!)
But, access to all subways etc, is just down stairs at the Port
Authority building, and not too far from 42nd Street & Broadway.
I would reccomend taking a subway to Battery park and taking
the ferry out to see both the Statue of Liberty, and the
new museum on Ellis island. Once you get back to Manhattan,
you are rigth next to the World Trade center towers, and not
too far from the NY city hall, etc. Maybe you could call
and get tickets for Letterman, at the Sullivan Theater?
I like to take the kids thru times square - where NEW YEARS
'starts' for the USA, and then take the subway out to OLD
Coney Island, and walk out to the beach etc. There are still
some great places to get a hot dog at coney island, but not
much of the old amuzments.
If you are BRAVE, you can even go rent some canoes in central park!
(seasonal of course)
If I was only going to be in NY with SCOUTS, for part of 1 day,
I would NOT use up so much time at a SHOW.
There is also the Bronx ZOO, to consider, and Brooklyn Childrens
Museum, if you have BAD weather.
Scouter Don, now near Buffalo NY, and NOT NYC anymore
