I have to agree that holding an occaisional family camping trip is
wonderful. It's is done best when boys are put into leadership positions
over their own (or other) parents to really show them what they've
The best I've seen it done had the families break up into "patrols."
Each patrol would consist of two families with the two boys from those
families acting as PL and APL. Everyone got their fair share of camp
work details, and the boys really got to show the families what it was
they did when they went off on those weekend trips. It also allows the
boys to put leadership skills to use in ways they usually wouldn't.
It shouldn't be done for every trip, but it is always good to let the
boys shine in front of their families at more than Courts of Honor.
