Only because, John, this is the GSMC's "Friends of Scouting" season,
and there are MANY folks there that know of Cly. The general
consensus is that if the Council "makes a big splash" and gets this
guy, who's next? And what keeps the Council, acting on behalf of the
National Council, from coming after those that "are somewhere on the
fence" in matters like this? Expect that AFTER they have completed
their fundraising season, that they will return to finding this dude.
There are about 40 or so "serious patch collectors and merchandisers"
in and around the area served by that Council....many of which are
former or present Scouters with lots of money to give to a large
Council operation like the one out of Knoxville (as you correctly
stated, the staff there is EXTREMELY overworked, even up to and
including Jimmy!!), and unit, membership and finance has dropped
somewhat over the past two years because of a lot of different and
This has caused the Council to REALLY be very proactive toward getting
the resources neccessary to continue operation (also, there's some
"rumors" around that it will soon (as in this year or before '97) aquire
*some* of the area served by the Bluegrass Council (out of Lexington,
Kentucky) and Sequoyah Council (out of Johnson City, Tennessee), because
both Scouters and "some folks at Region" have stated that the logistics
of getting support is better with Knoxville than it is with the other two
Councils (Scouters in southern Kentucky and east-central Tennessee
routinely send their advancement reports and get insignia and other items
from Knoxville because it is geographically closer to them than either
Johnson City or Lexington).
Things are NOT cooling down there, it's just that priorities have
changed somewhat (kinda like why I haven't been on here the past two
weeks daily *hehehe*) and they have to "make the money" to run and
manage the program.
