Scott Beckett was the 1994 OA National Chief and currently sits on the
National Council, BSA. He has asked me to forward the following message
to you for your comments. Hey, notice that your comments WILL go straight
to National, so help him out.
However, respond directly to Scott at firstname.lastname@example.org, not to me, or to the
SCOUTS-L list. I am sure that Scott will summarize the the comments for the
list. If any comments do come my way (and I have less than 400 messages in
my mailbox) I will get them to Scott.

> I am writing as a guest on the Scout list. Currently, I serve on
> the National Committee of the Order of the Arrow and am involved with
> their program for the Year Of Service '95 at the Philmont Scout Ranch.
> I am also an Assistant Scoutmaster with my troop in Las Vegas.
> Several years ago, the Order of the Arrow began distributing the
> camping promotion packets as a way in which the Order could better
> enhance the summer camp attendance by scouts. This is the third year we
> have distributed the packets, which made their debut at the '94 NOAC in
> August and have been mailed to all the councils that have requested
> them. Letters were mailed to each and every scout executive in August
> discussing the packet and the way in which they can order them for their
> council's units.
> I want to get feedback as to the packets. Here are a list of
> questions to give you a guideline as to what types of things I am looking
> for, but I would welcome any and all suggestions for enhancement,
> questions, comments about the packets (distribution, content, materials,
> etc), and anything else that might come to mind. MY OBJECTIVE IS TO GET
> FEEDBACK AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THE PACKETS ARE A USEFUL TOOL AND HOW WE CAN
> ENHANCE THEIR BENEFITS FOR UNITS AND CAMPS. Anything that you may be
> able to contribute would be extremely helpful, as the units are where the
> truth about a programs' success/failure really lays.
> * Has your unit used the packets in it camp promotion campaign?
> * Have the packets served the purpose? Are they helpful?
> * Do the scouts relate to the themes offered (ex: Totally Cool
> Adventure!)? How could they be made more youthful?
> * What support materials work the best (ie. poster, handouts)?
> * What types of things would you like to see added to the packet
> for your use in the unit?
> * FOR COUNCIL TYPES: Do the packets come ready for use in your
> council, or how could we change the format as to make them more council
> friendly (ie. ready for customizing)?
> * Your thoughts and suggestions...
> I truly appreciate any suggestions that can be passed along to
> me. We on the OA committee want to make scouting grow and one way is by
> providing the best product we can for the promotion of summer camp.
> Please respond if you have any thoughts, as all are being documented (good
> and bad) for review by our committee.
> Please reply to me personally as I am not a member of SCOUTS-L,
> mainly b/c I have too much email as it is (But have made room for all
> yours concerning this issue!!!!). Thanks again, fellow scouters, I
> appreciate your help.
> In highest service,
> Scott Beckett
