The time has come for me to say hi to all of you. I have known since I
started lurking (a couple of months ago) that I was going to become the
Scoutmaster of the Troop I work with, but it has taken until now until
all the ducks were in a row and it is final. I wanted to wait until
this happened before I introduced myself. (If I had known it would
take this long, I probably wouldn't have waited).
I started my Scouting career in Cub Scouts in Japan. My father was in
the Navy and this is where we lived at the time. We moved back to the
US during my last year as a Cub Scout, so I didn't earn my Webelos award.
However, as soon as we were back I found my way into a great Troop where
I stayed until I was an Eagle Scout. Shortly after I received my Eagle
scout award I switched to a new unit that was just starting up and was much
closer to my home and stayed there until I was no longer a youth and
then became an adult leader for a year. Then came a break in my scouting
life when I went off to college. After college I had moved to a new
community and could not find a way to get involved in Scouting (I did
look around a little, but no luck).
I finally got back into Scouting when my church asked me to be the
Cubmaster of the church's pack. I was the Cubmaster of that pack for
a little over 5 years. Since I enjoyed Cub Scouts, I got involved in
Cub Scout Basic Training, Pow Wow, Day Camp. The whole works. Starting
my second year as a Cubmaster I became the Cub Scout Roundtable
Commissioner for my District. I just gave that up recently after 5
enjoyable years. When I left Roundtable, I traded for District Cub
Scout Training Chairman. Connected with my various training
responsibilities I went off to Cub Scout Trainer Wood Badge where I
became a BEAVER!! I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity
to go back and be a staffer. I also paid a visit to Philmont for a
Roundtable Conference. (My family said I could go back anytime, as
long as I brought them).
After 5 years as a Cubmaster, the chartered organization asked me
to move to the Troop. I was an Assistant Scoutmaster for a little
over a year and now I am the Scoutmaster. I went to Boy Scout
Wood Badge and am now also an Owl.
My Internet connection is provided by my employer. I am a System
Designer for CT Scanners. It pays the bills, so I can maintain my
I have enjoyed the Electronic Roundtable and look forward to future
ideas from the forum. Thanks to all of you who take the time to
provide your ideas, knowledge and encouragement.
