Regarding the disapproval of 5-6 badges on an Eagle Board.
This is a prime example of a person who should be replaced as the
District/Council Advancement Chairman. He has lost sight of the true aim
of the Scouting Program. We are here to serve the youth members, not
hold them hostage for petty adult power squabbles.
If there was a problem with counsellors registration, why was this issue
not addressed when the application was processed in the local office
instead of waiting for the Eagle Board? It sounds like the Advancement
Chairman is wanting to show off his power. Why would anyone wait until a
BOR to look at credentials of counsellors? If the proper registration is
a concern, the issue should have been addressed immediately. How many
more boys have seen the same counsellors and will face the same problem
at their board? What are we accomplishing by requiring registration of
counsellors, then not enforcing it until maybe months after the boy has
completed the work?
Could the chairman have just arranged for the registration of the
counsellors and gone on with the BOR?
I hope the confusion can be repaired before the boy becomes totally
discouraged. I also hope that an Advancement Chairman can be found who
will work in a positive manner with units and Eagle Candidates!
