As a lurker of two months, its time for me to say hello and ask for your
assistance. Introductions first! My name is Bill Dunn and I'm currently
wearing four hats in Scouting (Cubmaster & Webelos Leader for Pack 339, Port
Jefferson Station, NY; Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop 354, PJS,NY; and Cub
Scout Roundtable Commissioner, Nathaniel Woodhull District, Suffolk County
Council, Long Island, NY). Hence my screen name, HourAWeek! I spent four
years in Cubbing in the early 60's (really enjoyed the thread on old ranks -
I remember Lion and Webelos "W" badges), four years as a Boy Scout, and two
years as a Sea Explorer. I left Scouting in the early 70's and returned five
years ago when my boys got involved.
My wife, Debbie, and I have three boys - 13, 10, and 8 - all in Scouting.
The 10-year-old graduates to Boy Scouts on Sunday at our Blue & Gold Dinner
after being awarded the Arrow of Light. Debbie's up to her eyeballs in
Scouting as well, having held positions as Tiger Cub Coach, Den Leader, and
Den Leader Coach. I could go on for several hundred lines, but my story is
much like yours. Let's just say that I'll be in Scouting for the rest of my
life because I recognize the value that the program provides to our society.
On to the request: Last year our district ran a Webelos Woods activity for
the first time in many years. The program was successful and we're looking
forward to making it bigger and better this year. Here's where you come in!
Based on all I've read over the past couple of months, there must be a
treasure trove of ideas and experiences out there in cyberspace related to
Webelos Woods. We'd appreciate any and all ideas that you have. Thanks in
