I have just returned from the funeral of a 18 year old girl who
had earned the GSUSA gold award. She was killed by a reckless
truck driver. Some on this group, may know the Welsch family in
Darian NY, Genesee county, I think. Kim's father and brother
are both Eagle scouts in BSA, and both camp staffers in the summer.
Active in OA and past jamborees.
Kim recently participated in the GS wider oportunities, and
traveled to Swenden, with a canoe TREK above the artic circle.
I can not begin to remember all the accomplishments of this
very bright young person.
BUT, I want to mention the attendance of BOTH Girl Scouts,
and Boy Scouts and leaders at the wake and the funeral. IT
WAS JUST great. Some of the girls read poems they wrote
for Kim, and they created a series of posters with pictures
of Kim's life, with baby pictures, camp photos, high school
If anyone out there knows Kim Welch or her family, please
remember her, and the family in your thoughts. There is
going to be a memorial fund set up through the Girls Scouts,
Genesee Council, I will try to get details.
As long as we remember her in out hearts, she will never
truly be gone from us.
