I have been giving this uniform issue quite of bit of thought. My scout
troop I belong to as a boy was a troop with little money. Most of the scouts
were of the "wrong side of the tracks" types and just having money for the
shirt and patches was a big deal. But I always remember dad (asm) and the
scoutmaster always wearing complete uniforms (including the pants). As time
went along about 1/2 of the boys started wearing complete uniforms, brought
with their own money. It was never a demand to have the pants but they felt
it was neccessary to be part of the team.
I personally think that a nice pair of blue jeans would do the job, but
someone much higher than me thinks the scout pants are a better idea.
With this in mind I will try to always wear the pants w/ my uniform shirt as
I start my tour as a unit commissioner.
