Thanks for forwarding the message from the Gold Award Advisor. I do have
some comments regarding some of his statments.
Yes technically a girl can join Girl Scouts as a Senior. Just as boy can
join scouting in Highschool and earn all the ranks to his eagle in less
than 2 years.
A girl would have to be extremely driven with no other activities in her
life to earn the badges, leadership and other requirments in a year. That
is certainly not the case in our council!
Also, just recently we have been reading threads on the list regarding
young Eagles that have received the badge as young as 12. And other
messages about paper Eagles, where it sounded like the boys were pushed
thru and did not really earn all the badges.
Another item I disagree with is his statement that the only time
requirement is is 30 hours of service. It states right in the handbook
that the Gold Project must encompass 4 months. Also that all the other
requirements must be completed before starting the Gold Project.
I am not trying to say that it is the same -- But it is not as easy as
this person makes it appear and I think it deserves more respect than it
currently is getting.
