SUBJECT: Class A Uniforms
My troop requires a minimum of Class B at all meetings. When we travel, we
wear the class A shirt. Pants must be in reasonable shape. Kneckerchiefs,
belts, socks, etc really can cause the boys not to want to wear any uniform if
you "force" it on them. When we get a new SPL, the PLC decides what will be
the "Class A" uniform for inspections (in addition to the shirt). The troop
knows to wear the full uniform at Courts of Honor and inspections (they know
the dates up front). It seems to work well and over 90% of the boys cooperate.
Our trouble time is in the fall during football season. Mainly with the older
boys. We usually have two or three inspections during this time. Prizes to the
patrols with the best score. We then only have one inspection in the spring.
Your trouble time may vary depending upon what sports the boys are interested
A major emphasis is placed on the SPL, ASPL's and adults to follow the
guidelines. If they don't, the boys won't.
