Being fairly new to the list I don't know about a past thread on this
subject, but I do have some questions of my own along this line. Back-
ground: A couple of weeks ago I was at an Eagle COH and spoke to a
fellow active in organizing a Scout troop at a local high school. He
bemoaned his troubles and brought up some points that confused me.
The quotes are his statements as I remember them.
1) "Since Explorers can't earn an Eagle through the Exploring program
we have to have a BS troop." Is that so?
2) "Since we have to include females we had to come up with a rank
similar to Eagle for them to earn." When asked about the
Gold Award he insisted that was, "Simply not the same thing."
I'd been lead to beleive so. True or not?
3) When asked what age boys this troop would recruit his reply was
9th grade and above only. Being active with a Scout troop
for several years now that attitude did not seem to be
productive, but I've been wrong before.
What do you Explorer and GS leaders have to say about 1 & 2 above?
