Boys and Girls

Each 2 years, our boy scout council and girl scout council
joinly conduct in conjunction with the D.O.E. and PANTEX an atomic
energy seminar for 4 weekends. When completed, the boys earn their
atomic energy merit badge (I'm not sure what the girls earn) and all
can go on a 2 day trip to Los Alamos, N.M. and the Sandia Labs for
tours. We took 5 bus loads and I had the honor of being Bus Commander
of bus 4 (the girl bus). At first I was terrified at the prospect of
spending 2 days with thirty 14-17 year old giggling females. When
the trip was over and the girls hugged my neck and said "thanks" for
a great time, I requested the "girl" bus for next time. Most of the
leaders on the other buses wanted on my bus by the end of the trip.
The last time we took the trek, we divided the girls evenly through
all the buses. BIG mistake! Really BIG!!!
Call me sexist if you will, but there is a difference between boys
and girls. I do not beleive that girls should be in the same scout
troop as boys, but after my last trip, I beleive that the scouting
movement should think about putting 2 & 2 together into one national
movement for the good of all scouts. Think of the money alone that
could be saved in camps and equipment.
There are alot of girls out there that desearve the things that
boy scouting has to offer and vise-versa. Why not just SCOUTS. I am a
die hard conservitive and one of the most politicly incorrect males
you might come accross, but the fact is, we both have alot to offer
each other. We allow females in O.A. and to be leaders, but if your
under 18, forget it.
No response is needed as these are just the ramblings of a
crazed scout leader and a Texan at that.......
