Re: graduating Webelos into Boy Scouts, our pack has a tradition of
awarding the Arrow of Light at a special ceremony during the January
pack meeting (cub awards and the ceremony are the sole activities for
the pack meeting.)
At the Blue and Gold, boys graduating on to Boy Scout troops
participate in a ceremony orchestrated by representatives of the
troops to which the boys have joined. Boys who have earned all 20
activity badges are also recognized.
Our district encourages Webelos graduation in February so that the
boys can register with their selected troops and begin working on
scout activities (camping skills) before summer camp. It also helps
out with the rechartering exercise which for our council takes place
As far as overshadowing the younger boys' achievements, this has yet
to be a problem for our pack. Separate award ceremonies are conducted
for the younger cubs and I emphasize the accomplishments of the
younger boys as well as those of the Webelos who are graduating.
Food for thought.
