I would like to put in my plug for NOT graduating Webelos into Boy Scouts
at your blue and gold banquet.
From my past experience, the blue and gold is a time when many cubs receive
Wolf or Bear Badges. All year long, the Webelos have been getting activity
pins at pack meetings (and the attendant recognition). If you do the AOL
and graduate Webelos at B&G, the wolf, bear and webelos badge presentations
are overshadowed. If you plan the AOL and graduation to scouts for March
rather than February, you allow the Wolf, Bear and Webelos presentations
the attention the deserve, and the AOL-transition ceremony gets the attention
it deserves without overshadowing the others.
It worked well for my pack although every year we had to explain to the
parents of the one new second year Webelos who moved in from out of town and
thought all AOL-transition ceremonies had to take place at B&G.
